The Story of Our Lives

One of the difficult things in life is the uncertainty of things. There is no way to be sure what will happen in all kinds of situations. We can plan to the best of our abilities, but there are no guarantees. We go to college to get specific degrees, then might not be able to get a job in that particular field. We get married thinking we will be the ones to have that “happily ever after”. We may have a happy marriage, however, illness, accidents and financial crises’ may make that more of a challenge than ever planned for. We can start any day thinking we know what we are going to do and what it will hold, but then that unwanted phone call happens and life is turned upside down.

During all of those situations, God is never surprised and never looks down saying, “wow, I never saw that coming”. I am not saying that God plans for the bad things to happen, I am saying that He is well aware of what is happening in our lives, and can use all of it for His glory… if we let Him. In the Bible, Joseph had a lot of bad stuff happen to Him, but when God’s timing was right, all of that “bad” stuff, turned around and the situations that probably were a lot worse many of us have ever had to face, became a better situation than we can imagine to ever have. He went from being sold by his own brothers, to being a slave, to falsely accused of rape, to serving a long prison sentence, to being second in command in Egypt. Which of us could ever even think of such a scenario playing out.

Our story won’t look the same as Joseph’s. We all have a different story, unique to us, but special to God. We may feel alone and like no one cares at times, but no matter the circumstances, we can trust in Jesus to help us if we will let Him. There is nothing too hard for Him, even if it looks hopeless in our eyes and in the eyes of everyone else. Our story isn’t over, the final chapter hasn’t been written yet. When Joseph’s story changed around, it was a day like any other. Then he was called to clean up, change clothes and appear before Pharaoh. His whole life changed in that moment. We do not know what day, what moment ours will change as well. We can trust God to take us through everything, good and bad. I pray no matter what your story is now, no matter how many negatives you might be experiencing, that He takes them and makes them into positives! Don’t give up, you might be about to start a new chapter in your story!
