A few days ago, there was a power outage. I was without for a couple of days and nights. My heat is by wood, and my stove is propane, so I was able to cook and was warm. However, I wasn’t able to do any of the things I had been planning on doing. I sat in front of my wood stove with a single candle burning. Oh, for a while I had several candles burning, but realized that while it put out more light, I still was not able to do any more than the light of one candle would allow.
In addition to that, the wind was blowing so hard we were under wind advisory. So, as I sat by my fire and watched the candle. My candle burned regardless of the how much the wind was blowing. The house was dark, darker than usual. No lights came from the refrigerator, stove, microwave, etc. It is amazing how many things we have that give off light.
I sat and watched my candle flicker and realized that it had no chance to stand against the wind if I were to take it outside. Yet inside the confines of my house, no matter how long and hard it blew, the candle was safe. As I thought about it, I realized that our lives are like the candle. Many things happen to us and are like the wind that rage around us. Sometimes it seems like those things are trying to snuff out our very lives. Yet, there is One who like the walls of my house, can protect us. We all have a choice of who and what we turn to when the storms of life come against us. Some of those choices are self-destructing. Others may seem like they are safe and good choices.
We all have to make choices as to how we will handle the personal storms of we face. I found my answers life in Jesus. He is the only one who died for me. He is the only one who invested all for me. He did it for you as well. Guard your candle and be careful as to who you entrust it to. Not all have your best at heart.
until next time,
mary
