Have you ever watched a child eat lemons? Especially the first time when they are not expecting the tart flavor, it can be so funny watching their expressions. Some children love the flavor. Others don’t find it to be delightful. If you take those same lemons, squeeze them, add sugar and water, you will end up with a refreshing drink that many people enjoy.
We have all heard the saying, “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade”. I have thought about that saying many times. We all have the “bitter” situations that happen from time to time. Some seem to have those times more than others. How we respond to it all is what makes the difference. It can make you bitter, or it can make you better.
The last week or so has been hot, the kind of day where lemonade tastes good. We like that part. We want the good things in our lives as well. But we don’t always want what it takes to get to that part. We see a great prayer warrior, or someone who possesses the fruits of the Spirit in an amazing way. They exhibit kindness, patience, peace, etc as no one else we know. But the hard things they went through learning to incorporate those gifts into their lives is something we may not want any part of. In reality, they might not have chosen that path either. But the lemonade that came out of it changed their lives, and possibly the lives of others as a result.
Life isn’t always easy. Maybe you have some lemons, some hard things happening in your life. But if you allow God to work in and through it, you may find you have the best lemonade you have ever had. I pray God helps you with everything you are facing right now. The best is still to come!
